Vietnamese airports serve nearly 80 million passengers in nine months

Vietnamese airports served 79.28 million passengers in the first nine months of 2018, a rise of 12.1 percent year-on-year; and transported 1.1 million tonnes of goods, up 5.6 percent, reported the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV).

According to the CAAV, the airports handled 336,400 flights in the period, up 10.2 percent over the same period in 2017, along with 337,500 million transit flights. 

In September alone, the authority managed 35,500 flights and 35,400 transit flights. Meanwhile, airports nationwide carried 8 million passengers and 125,500 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 115.5 percent and 5.6 percent, respectively.

CAAV Director Dinh Viet Thang said that the total number of passengers served by airports across the country in 2018 is likely to exceed 100 million for the first time.

In 2017, local airports served over 94 million passengers, up 16 percent over the previous year. Meanwhile, they saw 661,165 flights taking off and landing during the year, a rise of 10 percent year-on-year.
